Our aerobics programme
Includes traditional aerobics classes as well as water-based classes and body training sessions:
A workout which adds an exercise after every exercise, by the end you can have a full body workout with 10 exercises which you always add an exercise on.
The resistance of the water helps make your heart and lungs stronger, tones your muscles and also protects your joints and muscles from injuries. We set the class to music to make it fun.
A full body, functional workout, using a variety of equipment in a range of ways to get a great workout.
A fun mix of choreographed dance steps set to music.
BLT (Bum, Legs and Tums)
A lower body workout which uses the principles of a Bum, Legs and Tums workout; combining all three body parts to create the best lower body workout that is possible.
Body Attack ®
This class is a mixture of energetic aerobics and exercises to improve your strength and stamina. We provide lively instructors and exciting music to motivate you. Follow the simple movements to burn off calories quickly.
Body Balance ®
This class is a combination of Tai Chi, Pilates and new exercises. It aims to reduce stress and pain and improve your health.
It’s a whole body workout that can improve your overall fitness, which also makes it one of our most versatile classes. Body Conditioning classes can help you on your way to get in great shape and feel great about your body. Focusing on strength, muscular endurance and fitness conditioning, these classes will help to develop a strong and toned physique.
Body Combat ®
This class is a combination of exercises such as Karate, Tai Chi, Kick boxing and Tae Kwon Do. It is an athletic workout that will soon have you ‘fighting fit’.
An addictive fusion of the latest dance styles and hottest new sounds puts the emphasis as much on having fun as on breaking a sweat. Funky instructors teach you to move with attitude through this 55-minute class.
Body Pump ®
This energetic class is a low-impact workout that uses weights to tone your body and help you lose weight.
Low impact means that your feet never leave the ground at the same time. This helps to reduce the pressure on your muscles.
Body Step ®
This is a new version of the traditional step class. You can choose how hard you work by raising or lowering the level of your step. We set it to music, so that it is an enjoyable way to get fit.
This class uses a course of exercises to work different parts of your body. It will make you stronger, more flexible and improve your stamina. Although this class is hard work, it is very popular and great fun for everyone.
This class aims to exercise the abdominal area, from simple to killer, to help you flatten your belly, burn fat, and strengthen your core and lower back.
A three-stage workout which simulates a triathlon, row which takes the place of a swim followed by a cycle and a run, using different levels and gradients to mimic a real triathlon.
Elderberries is a weekly activity session designed to cater for people aged 50 plus. Elderberries sessions offer you the opportunity to socialise, have fun and be active all at the same time.
A full body high intensity workout which will get you sweating and jumping around in a short space of time; this workout will push you to the best you can with very little breaks you will get a great workout.
Fitball is great for toning those stubborn areas, strengthens your stomach muscles and improves your posture. This class will give all who try it a fun workout!
Sick of the same boring and repetitive work out that gets you no results. Fit2box is a dynamic boxing cardio workout designed to get you fast and effective results. Our classes are proven to get you real success. Classes are fun and constantly changing to continually challenge you to achieve your goals. Fit2box caters for all fitness levels and experience.
A warm up of exercises to get the muscles warm and ready to stretch, covering dynamic stretches, static and PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) stretches to loosen the body and release the tightness in joints and muscles.
A 20 minute workout designed to fiercely blast the abdominals with very little break and concentration which can really engage the abs.
A high-intensity activity that forces the body to work for longer periods of time at a higher capacity than traditional workouts. As a result, people experience faster increases in cardiovascular fitness, and burn carbohydrates and fat more efficiently; as much as 1,000 calories per hour!
The Kettle bell is a cast iron weight, ranging from 5lbs to over 100lbs, shaped like a cannonball with a handle. Kettle bells offer a different kind of training using dynamic movements which target almost every aspect of fitness, endurance, strength, balance, agility and cardio endurance.
A circuit combining kinesis machines with body weight exercises to get a full body workout, although low intensity the exercises may vary to create a unique circuit.
Pilates is a great way to improve your posture, core stability and makes you more flexible. It also releases stress and tension, through a variety of floor based and balance exercises.
Spin / RPM ®
Take on the terrain as your inspiring team coach leads you on your bike through the hills, flats and mountain peaks over the equivalent of a 25km ride. You control the intensity of the workout through the resistance dial, riding speed and position, so riders of all abilities can work out together. The more you ride the fitter you get.
Shape and Tone
This class is a mixture of aerobic exercises to get your heart pumping, followed by toning exercises. You will use hand weights and your own body weight to tone your body.
Yoga is an alternative way of exercising to improve your mind, body and spirit. Yoga improves your posture and breathing, and makes you more flexible. It also relieves stress and tension.
You can choose to take part in one or all of the activities as they are designed for all levels of ability and experience. You need to have a gym induction session on your first visit. To learn more about our membership schemes and what would be most suitable for you, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.
Health and fitness
If you want to get fitter or train for a particular sport, we have fully-equipped fitness studios and aerobic programmes to suit everyone’s needs. Our fitness studios have weight training equipment, as well as a wide range of free weights to tone, shape, strengthen and improve your fitness in a safe environment.
We also has have cardiovascular equipment to train the heart, help you lose weight, and improve your general health and well-being. Please ask about personal training and managing your weight.
Before using the studio, you must first come to an induction session. This session will make sure you know what the equipment is for and how you should use it. After the induction, you are free to use the equipment.

Monday to Friday: 6.30am to 10pm
Saturday and Sunday: 8am to 9pm
If you would like more help, or have a specific goal in mind, our fully-trained staff can offer fitness testing and personalised training programmes to help you achieve that goal.
Ladies’ only sessions
Women will be given exclusive access to Abbey Leisure Centre on Saturday evening’s between 7pm and 9pm. This includes access to the gym and the pool.
Unfortunately, on occasions there will be a need to have male members of staff on duty.
