  • Leisure Attendant (NPLQ qualified)
  • Level 1 and 2 Swimming Teachers

About these jobs

We are on the lookout for enthusiastic people to join the Aquatics Team at our two leisure centres.

Becontree Heath Leisure Centre in Dagenham is home to the UK’s largest aquatics programme with over 6,000 participants every week while Abbey Leisure Centre in Barking opened in March 2015 and is growing fast.

The Council operates all programmed aquatic activities within its leisure centres including foundation phase, junior learn to swim, school swimming and adult learn to swim through to the Barking and Dagenham Aquatics Club which is the competitive outlet for swimming, lifesaving and water polo.

We were crowned ASA Local Facility Operator of the Year 2014.

We have positions available for casual Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 teachers/coaches along with Leisure Attendants (must hold National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) to join the team. When regular hours become available all staff in the casual pool will be able to apply for them on a competitive basis.

We run a wide-ranging programme, so we are especially looking for teachers/instructors with the specialist qualifications and experience to run classes such as Aqua Natal, Adult and Child, Mini Polo/Water Polo, Aquafun/Synchronised Swimming, Flip n Fun diving, Underwater Hockey and RLSS Rookie Lifeguard, Survive and Save Instructor, NPLQ Trainer Assessor.

Due to the size of our programme we have teaching and coaching hours to suit everyone – from early mornings, daytimes, early evenings and late evenings whether weekdays or weekends.

For an informal discussion about the roles available, please contact the Aquatics Team on or 0208 227 3215.
