Ageing Well Programme

‘Ageing Well’ is a health and well being programme for Barking and Dagenham residents aged 60 years or over. The programme offers a variety of physical activity and cultural activities and runs from a number of venues across the borough:

  • Abbey Leisure Centre
  • Avenues Club
  • Barking Park
  • Becontree Heath Leisure Centre
  • Broadway Theatre
  • Chadwell Heath Community Centre
  • Dagenham Library
  • Fanshawe Community Centre
  • Mayesbrook Park
  • Park Centre
  • Valence Library
  • Wantz Centre

A new programme will begin in April 2015. This includes weekly activities such as Arts and crafts, cards, cycling, darts, exercise classes, gym, line dancing, sequence dancing, short mat bowls, snooker, swimming, Tai Chi and yoga. There are events such as tea dances on a regular basis and a programme of events throughout the year.

There is an annual membership fee of £52 for Barking and Dagenham residents. In paying this annual fee, you will become an Ageing Well member and will have unlimited access to both Council leisure centres up until 5pm Monday to Friday and all weekend. Additional charges will apply for out of borough residents and residents aged under 60 years.

In addition to this you will also have access to a wide range of arts and crafts, cultural, and health and fitness activities, as well as free tea and coffee, if you attend one of our activities at any of the following Ageing Well facilities across the borough:

  • Chadwell Heath Community Centre
  • Park Centre
  • Valence Library
  • Wantz Centre

In order to become an Ageing Well member please contact 0208 227 3641 for more information, or speak to a member of staff at your local leisure centre. You will be asked to provide proof of age and address.
