We understand that it can be hard for parents to find things to keep the family busy and entertained during the school holidays, so Barking and Dagenham offer a programme of free and affordable activities for children and young people who live or go to school in Barking and Dagenham during school holidays.

Multi sports camp – First Kicks

This camp is now full.

The multi sports holiday camp will encourage children to take part in a number of different sporting activities throughout the week. This will include attendance from a street dance coach who will teach the participants different routines during the week for a performance that will be shown to parents/carers on the last day of the camp. Our aim is to encourage confidence and help children build on their basic skills of running, jumping, throwing and co-ordination. These key skills will be incorporated over the week in a number of different multi sport games.

Football camp – Young Stars Football

This camp is now full.

Young Stars will host a soccer school at St Chads Park in Chadwell Heath inviting children of all abilities to participate in a wide range of football fun including games, drills and matches. Participants will learn new techniques, perfect their skills before exploring it in a game situation during the day and then a tournament at the end of the week.

Every skill learnt from the soccer school can be transferable to different sports or even different aspects of life from leadership to motivation and working hard to achieve goals as part of a team. Each day children will learn new skills and techniques, making new friends, and most of all get a chance to join our local grassroots football club teams to continue their progress.

Skateboarding & Scooter workshop – Team Rubicon

Trampolining camp – Kidsvision

This camp is now full.

The trampolining camp will teach participants to perform acrobatics while using a trampoline. These can include simple jumps in the pike, tuck or straddle position to more complex combinations of forward or backward somersaults and twists.

Each participant is assigned to a group of bouncers who are of a similar age and ability. The coaches will adapt their approach to each performer and tailor the weeks coaching programme to meet their individual needs and desires based on dialogue at the beginning of the week. The camp will finish with a short display of skills by each of the bouncers, which may include any new skills attempted during the week.

Karate camp – Elitez Karate Academy

This camp is now full.

Elitez Karate Academy gives young people a chance to learn the fundamentals of the martial arts sport. The camp sessions are built around encouraging a positive frame of mind and team work which can lead to new friendship circles being established. The aim is to enforce a healthy lifestyle which is implemented long-term. Martial arts encourage and builds self-respect and confidence in young people via various channels including fitness. The camp will include basic karate lessons as well as fitness aspects implemented within.

Rugby camp – Dagenham Rugby Club

This camp is now full.

We will educate all participants in what and how to promote a healthy lifestyle. We will be using rugby core skills, fitness as a base and adapting these into fun related games. Every morning there will be a wake up and shake session that will start the day in the best possible way. We will work and promote rugby’s core values of teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, respect, enjoyment and try and get the participants to understand how they can use and promote these values in everyday life.

Athletics camp – Be Fit Today Academy

This camp is now full.

The academy runs a multi-event athletics development programme, which introduces the fundamental skills of athletics to young people. It focuses not only on how fast someone runs, jumps and throws but also more importantly, on developing the technical skills required to perform at full potential and move like a champion. Participants will be placed in groups depending on their ability and will learn athletic disciplines through fun games with a competition at the end of the programme.

Cooking workshops – Kinder Kitchen

This camp is now full.

Throughout the day children will be making a variety of healthy recipes, trying new ingredients and learning vital cookery skills. They will get eat all the food they cook and take the recipes home with them to make again. The young people will also make a selection of healthy smoothies and fresh juices that have a range of vitamins and nutrients in them.

Discussions will take place on what happens to the fructose in fruit and vegetables once they have been juiced and the importance of fibre in our diet. A selection of healthy snack bars with will also be prepared.

Football camp – Ultimate Vision

Each day will have a selected theme which will help improve each player’s footballing ability including learning the offside rule, dribbling, passing, shooting and throwing skills. On the last day, there will be a football tournament where each player will receive a medal and certificate. After completion of the course all players will be given the opportunity to join Ultimate Vision Sports Saturday football club which takes place at William Bellamy Primary School from 10.15am to 11.15am.

Girls only football camp – Barking Football Club

This camp is now full.

The girls only football camp will consist of multi skill functions designed within fun, small sided games. Each participant will have the opportunity to try new skills, learn about the body in action and work as a team member. Each player will learn the fundamental skills of balance, co-ordination, speed and communication which will all help to improve. This is all wrapped up in a fun and exciting environment that will be safe, supportive and respectful for all. Our plan is to use this opportunity to develop long term sessions for girls of all ages. It is important at this stage that the girls are having fun and engaging in a sport that can promote a long and healthy life.

Multi sports camp – Premier Sports

This camp is now full.

The camp covers a wide range of sports including team games and racket sports. The programme is accessible to children aged between 5 and 11 years and is open to all abilities. It ensures children have fun with friends, at the same time learning the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle. The programme helps children improve their communication skills, build their self-confidence and develop valuable social skills.

Boxing camp – Dagenham Police & Community Boxing Club

The course will include non-contact boxing coaching tuition along with important inputs around carrying knives and gang membership from local Police. There will also be fitness sessions and healthy eating and diet inputs from qualified professionals.

Free places will also be offered to up to 25% of the participants into the clubs existing club groups (age permitting)

Street Dance camp – Far from the Norm

The street dance workshops will involve the young people learning a variety of street dance styles from professionals in the industry. There are a number of street dance styles and we will cover as many as possible to the young people. The young people will learn new dance styles, meet new friends, gain confidence and and how to create their own choreography.

Cycling camp – Cycle 4 All

This camp is now full.

Sessions will be led by British cycling and Bikeability coaches on a traffic free circuit in the Jim Peters Stadium in Mayesbrook Park. Each day will include skill and fitness sessions, fun games and races. By the end of the week the participants will have more confidence on a bike, learned new skills, be comfortable riding in a group and have knowledge of the different competitive cycling disciplines.

Don’t worry if you don’t own your own bike, we have plenty to go around including tricycles, recumbent machines, karts and hand cycles. At the end of the week participants will be asked if they want to join the inclusive cycling club ‘Cycle 4 All’. The more sport oriented attendees will have the option of joining the Barking and Dagenham Cycling Club which caters for competitive riders. (Children must be able to ride a bike to attend)

Multi sports camp – Ultimate Vision

A jam packed 4-day sports experience course for children aged 5 to 14 years old. Each day participants will have the opportunity to try three different sports including handball, dodgeball and futsal. The last day all three sports will be covered.

Each day will focus on the technique and skill of each sport and include small sided games.

After completion of the course all players will be given the opportunity to join our Ultimate Sports Experience club which takes place at Goresbrook School on Wednesdays 5pm to 6pm.

Fencing camp – Little Musketeers Fencing Club

This camp is now full.

Little Musketeers is an exciting club offering a fun, safe and educational environment for young children to learn the sport of fencing.  All equipment is provided during the sessions including bright coloured foam, plastic foils and plastic masks. Each mask will have a mesh visor that are safe and yet hard enough to give children the real feel of fencing and must be worn at all time.

Fencing provides a unique mix of physical, intellectual and emotional stimulation. It is a great way to get or stay fit and meet new people. It also helps develop muscle strength, flexibility and coordination through the diverse array of positions and movements that fencing requires.

At the end of the week, the campers will get to demonstrate their new found skills and positions to family and friends.

Canoeing camp – Kidsvision and Barking and Dagenham Canoe Club

This camp is now full.

This holiday camp is an excellent introduction to the sport of canoeing. Run by fully qualified and experienced coaches, sessions are open to young people aged from 8 to 17 years old. Children and young people don’t need to have any previous canoeing experience, specialist kit or skills… they just have to turn up and have a go.

These sessions are designed as an introduction to canoeing and the local canoe club for prospective members. If children and young people enjoy the taster session they can join the club term time training sessions and competitions.

Please note participants must be able to swim at least 50m unaided to attend this camp.

Change4life multi sports and fitness camp – Kidsvision

This camp is now full.

The camp will support young people to be active and healthy by providing a multi sports and fitness camp that engages children in being physically active. Participants will be placed in age appropriate groups and rotate around four activities throughout the day where they will learn basic skills. They will also participate in small sided games in the specific sport or fitness activities such as rugby, hockey, gymnastics, fencing, martial arts, athletics, exercise to music, circuits and games.

On the last day of the camp there will be lots of competitions and the winning team will receive medals. Additionally, young people will be aiming to get as many stars throughout the week for good sportsmanship, being helpful and good behavior. A sports goody bag will be awarded to the boy and girl with the most stickers at the end of the week.

Boxing camp – Box Up Crime

Box-Up Crime boxing camp is a summer programme designed to recruit new members to the regular Box-Up community sessions. The summer programme allows young people to get the best of boxing in a fun and challenging way.

Box Up Crime also targets young people who may feel intimidated and lack the confidence to join our community sessions straight away. These sessions have a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

Box Up Crime increases the confidence of young people as well as enhancing their fitness levels through structured and specific sessions. Staff will build strong relationships with each individual and help them to identify their fitness goals and see if boxing is a good sport for them.

Exercise2music – Kidsvision

This camp is now full.

Exercise 2music combines a range of fun fitness classes for children to experience.

With a combination of dance, games and peer performance, children will enhance their balance and coordination skills as well as expressing their inner creativity. Children will also learn leadership, respect, teamwork and confidence through these sessions.

Kids Cardio Kickboxing

The kick boxing sessions will teach children self-defense, self-confidence, and discipline in a fun and safe environment. Kickboxing will improve their flexibility, coordination, strength and concentration. They will learn boxing choreography as well as work on a boxing bag.

Cardio, Circuit, Obstacles, Fun (CCOF)

CCOF is a unique way for children to learn team building exercises and skills. Through obstacle courses, mini circuit training, and all kinds of games, there will be a little something for everyone. Kids will build self-confidence and endurance.

Multi sports camp – Premier Sports

This camp is now full.

The camp covers a wide range of sports including team games and racket sports. The programme is accessible to children aged 5 to 11 years and is open to all abilities. It ensures children have fun with friends, at the same time learning the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle. The programme helps children improve their communication skills, build their self-confidence and develop valuable social skills.

Terms and conditions:

There are a number of terms and conditions associated with the free Schools out. Get active programme of activities. The key terms and conditions are:

  • Children and young people must either live or go to school within Barking and Dagenham.
  • Children and young people must be the age stated on the activity to attend; younger children may be asked to show evidence of their age.
  • Failure to attend pre-booked activities without good reason or notifying the provider or schools out-get active team, may lead to you being refused access to further activities.
